Burimba Primary School
Lake Bunyonyi

The school started in mid 1980s as church school and most classes were conducted in the church with a few teachers later parents decided to shift the school from church premises to its present location.

The school is called BURIMBA PRIMARY SCHOOL its e-mail address is [email protected]. It is around lake bunyonyi and the closed town is Kabale town which is about 20km away.

The government pays staff salary which is not enough and provides few scholastic materials. Parents provide all scholastic materials to the children and uniform. Schools do not provide lunch at school and so most children stay on an empty stomach at lunch time.
The school buildings are incomplete with unfurnished buildings, no windows and doors. There are desks and benches and so four three pupils share a bench or desk. Teachers are very few with 1:70 or 80. The school has 8 teachers including the Headteacher. There is no any staff house and so teachers cross the lake every day to get to the school.

Therefore the school is in worse conditions that it needs to be rescued otherwise teachers and children suffer a lot.

The parents are very poor most of them cannot afford two meals a day and survive by going to work in other peoples’ gardens. Others carry heavy luggage while having babies on their backs looking for survive.
Few children get medical attention as it is difficult to get any money and medicine is expensive. Most people resort to herbs and others take simple tablets. Many young ladies do not get sanitary pads which are very important!

Thanks,

Health and other issues

The disease that mostly kill the population especially the children are;

1.Malaria
2.Diahorea
3.Kwashiorkor
4.AIDS

The medicine needed for the children and families should be for malaria and other preventive measures like sleeping under mosquito nets.  There are about  villages using the school and there is only one medicine man.  The children and families suffer alot as there are always many people congested who want medical attention.  The available medicines are limited and very expensive. few can afford paying for the same.

A new school, dorm and renovation of an existing building are very vital because;

  1. Many children need to be in the dormitory because they travel several kilometers before getting to the school
  2. A dorm would help the homeless and orphans who donot have parents and are staying with their relatives to have a shelter during schooling time.
  3. Renovating the school would help the children to continue with classes as they donot continue with classes these days when there are heavy rains and wind.
  4. Renovating the school will bring in many children as some children refuse to go to the school because the structures are very poor.
  5. Building a new school would be very important as new structures would be very well planned.
  6. Building a new school would let many more children attend the school as some children donot go to school because the classes are very school
  7. The children are congested in classes.  Some classes have 60 and above children in one class.

Very few children can afford a uniform and that is why it was a priority for this term.  Shoes are very much important as part of uniform.

Mosquito treated nets cost US dollar 7.  The children would keep clothes in cupboards in the dormitory.

The medicines and other packets can be sent to me by the mailing address because I have ever received packets and many people receive packets through mail boxes

Thanks,

Asiimwe Samuel

School Renovation project

There are over 500 children who attend the school. about 300 move to neighboring schools and about 200 do not attend school because the school has limited facilities to have many children going to the school, There are few canoes to collect the children and take the children back to their homes.  If the school is facilitated it would accommodate about 1000 children both day and boarders.

The school to renovate is a five class room block.
It will need five doors,
Fourteen windows,

The dorm which will have two blocks with two rooms each separate for boys and girls.  This would be able to accommodate 200 children. 100 boys and  100 girls.

WE NEED MORE CANOES FOR THE CHILDREN:

We have very few canoes for transporting the children to schools and therefore at the moment we need more five canoes. Transport for the children to school is every morning by a few canoes which are not enough. Some of the children miss lesson while others miss classes by they fail to get the means of transport to school
Attached is a photo of children waiting for their friends to bring back the canoe and pick them up as others are already in class. Due to this we kindly ask for assistance so as to save the children from missing classes and lessons.
And some small kids searching for a canoe near a dock on lake Bunyonyi.
